BLUE TN expresses its support for sub-Saharan African communities in Tunisia
Tunis, February 25, 2023 – BLUE TN, the Tunisian media company specializing in environmental issues, stands shoulder to shoulder with sub-Saharan African communities who have recently been the victims of racist violence in Tunisia. As a sign of solidarity, BLUE TN has decided to change its visual identity and logo to “BLACK TN” for one week.
We are aware of the pain felt by these vulnerable communities and the impact this has on their daily lives. We would like to remind you that the climate crisis is one of the main causes of the increasing migration of sub-Saharan African populations. Droughts, desertification, uncultivable land and lack of access to drinking water are forcing entire populations to leave their homelands in search of survival. According to the IPCC report on the consequences of global warming of 1.5°C, the impacts of climate change could lead to economic losses of up to 4.5% of GDP in West Africa by 2050.
We would like to remind you of the World Bank’s estimate that the number of climate refugees in Africa could reach 86 million by 2050 if nothing is done to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.
Scientists estimate 1.5 million Tunisian climate refugees by 2050.
The climate crisis will spare no one on this earth.
We also recall that the climate crisis affects not only the environment, but also human life, especially the most vulnerable communities.
We hope that this symbolic action on our part will serve as a reminder of the importance of solidarity and protection for all human beings, whatever their origin, skin color or social situation, in the name of African environmental solidarity.
